WELCOME to the POWER of Drawing
If you are new to Young Rembrandts, get ready to experience the power of drawing by watching this short introductory video by the Founder of Young Rembrandts on 'Why We Teach Drawing'. Then, come back and continue reading to learn more about me and how proud I am to keep ART in the HEART of every child who loves to draws to with us.
ABOUT ME.
Hi. My name is Tess Gutkowski. If you didn't know this already, every Young Rembrandts office is independently owned and operated. I am proud to call myself the Youth Drawing Director for the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago. For over 19 years, YR Southwest Suburbs has been partnering with over 50 Illinois schools throughout Will, Kendall & Grundy Counties to bring ART enrichment programs (Drawing Clubs) to students in grades K - 6th. ARTS education is our specialty. As a proud local small business non-profit partner of Brilliant Arts & Afterschool Alliance, your continued support of my parent-funded art enrichment programs for kids is very much appreciated!
ABOUT MY DRAWING CLUBS & CLASSES.
My Drawing Clubs & Classes meet once a week for 60 minutes. Private parties are typically 90 minutes.
Whether your child prefers IN PERSON or LIVE VIRTUAL classes (or both*), step-by-step drawing techniques will be demonstrated by my talented instructors who are passionate about art. By coaching the kids through the fundamentals of drawing, every week we will introduce our students to a FUN brand new picture that has been kid-tested, kid approved. Thanks to our six-year curriculum, we NEVER repeat a lesson. This means that if your child begins drawing with us at the age of 5 and continues to draw with us through 6th grade, they will NEVER see/draw the exact same lesson. Pretty cool, right?
*NOTE: The lessons taught in our LIVE Virtual classes will be different than what we teach during our In Person classes, so if you child is really passionate about ART, they can get their double-dose of weekly drawing by joining both options! ART'astic, right?
Drawing Sessions (at most schools) take place for 8 consecutive weeks. When those 8 weeks are over, a new 8 week session typically begins immediately. LIVE Virtual classes take place weekly and you are able to pick-and-choose which weeks to draw without committing to an 8 week consecutive session.
Drawing Clubs & Classes introduce students to three types of curriculum that will alternate from week-to-week, session-to-session:
1) ELEMENTARY Drawing Curriculum teaches students to break complex objects into foundational shapes. As we learn how to deconstruct and reconstruct images, the experience, repetition, and variety of engaging and relevant subject matter bring students to increased levels of mastery in drawing.
2) CARTOONING Curriculum follows our step-by-step drawing method, with the added fun and excitement of cartooning. While cartooning can be playful and engaging, students gain mastery in a unique drawing style while they improve their core learning skills, not to mention waking up their imagination and creative side!
3) ART History Curriculum introduces students to a famous artist. We discover who the artist was and replicate a piece of their work, to the best of our abilities, following our award-winning step-by-step drawing methods.
Our environment is always NON-competitive. With repeat participation, our classes are built to be fun, but students who participate in Young Rembrandts drawing classes increase their academic skills, fine motor skills, social skills , hand and eye coordination and self confidence. Drawing supplies will be provided for IN PERSON classes or students can bring their own. No matter what their skills levels may be, every class ends with the entire class celebrating each student's drawing achievements! We encourage families to continue celebrating those drawing achievements at home.
BROWSE all of the drawing options available to your family HERE or jump over to my View Classes & Enroll page. I even host monthly virtual FAMILY Drawing Nights & Events. Private drawing parties and private lessons, too.
Worth repeating. Every Young Rembrandts office is independently owned and operated. My home-based office in the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago has been serving communities throughout Will, Kendall and Grundy counties for over 19 years. Thank you for supporting small businesses AND encouraging your student to keep ART in their HEART.

Hi Mrs. G. I just wanted to let you know that Adelyn really enjoyed you and your virtual class last night. You made it really fun! Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Brenda - Plainfield
What you do for the community is so appreciated and I hope you KNOW the impact you make in these little minds. The arts are not nurtured enough these days and it is a tragedy, because each child has a different and BEAUTIFUL talent that often go amiss and lost because schools often tend to focus more on the typical academic goals being met while the arts do not receive any focus in the core curriculum. And drawing is only one facet of this large group that I categorize as Arts. THANK YOU for nurturing a talent in my child that I by no means have an ability to help her with. Case in point, I draw stick figures!

Mallory's social skills continue to be a work in progress but she seems to be slowly getting more involved. We would do an in person drawing club but without a bus ride home, it's not feasible so I am very glad you kept the virtual option not just for COVID but for the transport issue some may face.
Bill - New Lenox
We are signed up (virtually) for the rest of 2021!
Kylie has been in YR since Kindergarten (now 5th grade). Art is her favorite subject. We have seen a remarkable advancement to her drawing and especially her attention to detail in everything she encounters. As a parent, I kept every picture she has drawn. More parents need to discover your program!
Deana - New Lenox
I just wanted to say thank you for being such a remarkable art teacher! Mateo just loves you as an instructor! And loves the class/parties! He's been having a hard time adjusting to the lonely world of COVID, e-learning and stay-at-home orders but your virtual art class definitely brings him joy and makes him forget for a little while. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Amy - Plainfield
Olivia fist participated in Young Rembrandts last year 2019 when she was in 1st grade at Liberty Elementary. This is her second year joining this really great program run by really wonderful staff. Olivia has always had a knack for art; drawing and painting, using different types of mediums. By joining Young Rembrandts, it has only enhanced her love and passion for her artistic skills, expressing herself creatively. Although in-person classes after school are preferred, virtual Young Rembrandts has been a joyful experience still. Olivia looks forward to every Monday for her 1 hour online lesson with Mrs. G and her new Zoom friends where they create new drawings, come up with new stories about the characters they draw and have an overall feeling of comradery and togetherness with her group. Olivia has not only learned different techniques from Young Rembrandts, but it has also allowed her to come up with her individual ways of applying these skills to tailor to her own ways. It's been a wonderful addition to her self-esteem and confidence.

Benjamin is a 4th grader from New Lenox who loves coloring, drawing and creating. You can often find him at home drawing pictures or creating books. He enjoys listening to music and creating pictures late at night, when it isn't a school night, of course. Benjamin started Young Rembrandts when he was in kindergarten and he has participated in several sessions each and every year. While the last year has been filled with many disappointments, Benjamin is so happy to have one of his favorite after school activities continue virtually so he can keep learning and creating. Benjamin looks forward to drawing with Mrs. G every week, and his favorite part is sharing the story he creates about his pictures. When asked what he loves most about Young Rembrandts his reply is "I just love doing art. Art is my thing. You get to talk, make friends, eat snacks and add fun things to your picture."
Erin M. - New Lenox
Your virtual classes were a lifeline for our whole family during the quarantine. Evelyn was so isolated, so it was good for her to be online with you and your group and being able to do what she loves. It also gave me an hour of time where I didn't have to entertain her. Don't stop! Keep the virtual classes as an option for kids who can't join the in person classes afterschool.

Young Rembrandts Develops the Whole Child
We Do More Than Just Draw
Drawing with Young Rembrandts develops the whole brain by combining the three learning styles that children use to learn effectively. Therefore, Young Rembrandts students develop learning skills in ways intense academic classes cannot teach.

Young Rembrandts students make huge advances in their fine motor skills every week. Harnessing these skills is imperative for young learners to excel in traditional education settings. When fine motor skills increase, the hands can finally do what the mind can conceive.
Watch Video >
Art provides children a place and way to share themselves, to show what's on their mind and illustrate their ideas.
Watch Video >
Young Rembrandts drawing classes stimulate and develop the right side of the brain through art. These weekly drawing classes offer child-friendly and relevant subject matter to spark interest and increase knowledge retention, never losing sight that children learn best when they are engaged and entertained.

Art allows children to get in touch with their emotions, to express themselves, understand others, reflect on their work and learn from their mistakes. Not all children have the opportunity or desire to experience the social aspect of team sports. In the Young Rembrandts classroom, all kids can do and excel at a solitary activity while belonging and building those relationships in a "team-like" environment.

Art helps children learn to think for themselves, consider multiple viewpoints and explore a range of possibilities. In the Young Rembrandts classroom, students are encouraged to see things in a different way and thinking creatively. Mastering this type of thinking is essential to who children are and their future social and academic success.

Drawing Classes Just For Kids
Our Curriculum
Young Rembrandts was created to be fun.
Our drawing classes offer child-friendly and relevant subject matter to spark interest and increase knowledge retention. Through the process of weekly instruction Young Rembrandts students are exposed to a wide variety of subject matter, artistic concepts, art history and mastery of their materials.
Elementary Drawing
Young Rembrandts' elementary drawing teaches children to break complex objects into foundational shapes. As they learn how to deconstruct and reconstruct images, the experience, repetition, and variety of engaging and relevant subject matter bring them to increased levels of mastery in drawing - and in life.
Cartoon Drawing
Young Rembrandts cartooning classes follow our same quality, step-by-step method, with the added fun and excitement of cartooning. While cartooning is fun, playful, and engaging, children gain mastery in a unique drawing style and improve their core learning skills.
Preschool Drawing
Young children gather, collect and process more stimuli in the preschool years than at any other time in their development. Young Remmbrandts prepares their brains for more advanced learning. It is fun, encouraging, and will maximize development, to better prepare them as learners.
